CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE ASSOCIATION – POLITICAL NARRATIVE RESEARCH

Field’s Insight Team delivered a landmark qualitative and quantitative research programme to help the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA) understand how voters and political stakeholders perceive Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS), and how best to frame the technology ahead of the 2024 General Election.

OVERVIEW

To support the CCSA in making the political case for CCUS, Field designed a mixed-method research project combining targeted focus groups across key industrial clusters with a large-scale national survey. Through focus groups in politically marginal constituencies across key industrial clusters, supported by a large-scale national survey, we built a clear picture of what motivates public support for CCUS and how political stakeholders interpret the technology’s role in the transition.

The findings provided the CCSA with a clearer pathway to secure political support, equipping the organisation with evidence-based messaging and a sharper narrative aligned to wider policy and media trends. The work culminated in briefings to No.10’s energy team and the then Secretary of State for Energy, and directly informed the development of the CCSA’s pre-election manifesto.

OUTCOME

Our insights strengthened the CCSA’s political positioning and helped shape a more compelling, data-driven case for CCUS at a pivotal moment for the sector, supporting its engagement with senior decision-makers across government and industry.
